Some progress

Ok, here's the update on the ideas we all expressed in my previous blog. I have had a long chat with Milind Deora and he has promised to help forward our concrete proposals to the PM. AND make sure he reads them.

Meanwhile, do land up at the Gateway at 6pm on Wed. And make a statement. I will be there for sure.

hi,
thanks for the update.the progress report i really want:
Concrete steps taken to assure us of our safety.I am a citizen i cannot draw a 10 point plan & give it to the PM to act on .As citizens we can be suppotive of a "good plan" that the people in power come up with
.
Another thing i really want to know is that the next time ihe IB intercepts information how can we make sure it will not be ignored?

I hate to say this, but you know what the problem is? All of us are experts at giving advice. But when it comes to the crunch, we leave it to the politicians to decide. After inviting comments....you've handed over proposals to an MP who's going to give it to the PM? And we're all going to chant and light candles at the Gateway? After that, what? Business as usual, I guess...I think the most lucrative profession in India right now and in the near future will be that of a candle-maker.....if there are any listed on the stock exchange, make sure to invest, as the price of their shares will never drop.

Anil,

Was just watching Barkha on NDTV - there was a debate on where a gentleman actually suggested that we should have compulsory military training for 1 year for all youth at age 18 AND we Mumbaikars should not pay taxes next year. Brilliant suggestions, both of them.

hi, yes anon, we live in a democracy and these people rule us AND make decisions on our behalf whether we like it or not.
sure, some of us need to join active politics, but that is a long term plan. right now the least we can do is put pressure on the netas to ensure our safety. and plant ideas in their heads.
we can arm ourselves with guns, but if we want large policy changes, we need to go to them.

Anil -- You're right. Apologies for that earlier bitter outburst. I think it was just born out of deep frustration. At least you're doing something about it, unlike the rest who seem content to debate. However, the inane actions continue -- today's paper says that some IIT students are organising a "rock concert for peace"! With candles, concerts and crassness will we fill our days. (By the way, what was that in your remarks about guns? Alarming! I hope you're not doing a Bachchan on us.) - Regards, Hari.

hi anil
read your blog and feel quite the same way . though i do not think petitions, charters, candle lit vigils or any of these ineffectual responses will help anything. the government itself knows what is to be done on paper like we do. as we can see from all the reports it is implementation that is the problem and preparedness. talking to your MP will be of no help. but at least your MP is better than ours -Priya Dutt whom we have not heard a cheep out of and 'Munna bhai' Sanjay Dutt whom the media lionised but now we need to stop and step back and see if we can be as understanding about Sanju baba having AK 57 s and grenades in his home when we have seen what young men with Ak 47's can do up close.
i could not send in a comment on your blog because i could not remember my id on blogspot but will continue to follow it . Don't stop having an opinion :)

Anil,

You spoke to Milind Deora, to act on your behalf? He is another buffoon of the literate type.

Being educated, he himself should own responsibility and should resign - for all this happened in his constituency. But, I guess, there's so much money in politics that unless you forcibly push them out, nobody leaves . . .

On all three days of the attacks, he was seen for half a minute, fumbling for words; and reading out some figures (of how many terrorists came into the country blah . . blah!) from a reporters' worksheet.

But, then he is excused!! He is newly married. His honeymoon period is not yet over. As for the country . . . that can go to the dogs.

Shame on him.

I read your piece, please also ask Mr Deora how serious he is about Afzal Guru, if he wants to see him executed, let's hear him, otherwise don't tell me about these namby-pamby kids of MPs who get gaddi becoz of Daddy cool.
I am sick of Milind Deora types, who do nothing and sound very serious. What is his record in office? During his tenure we have had bomb blasts twice in Colaba.
