Two committees

See, this is exactly the thing that gives a huge boost to the terror agents in their recruitment drive. We have two committee reports on the Godhra incident, headed by the so-called respected judges, and their findings are 180 degrees opposite of each other. They are as dissimilar as Gandhi is from Osama.

I mean, if I was an able TV anchor, I would close the inane debate by grandly declaring ‘the truth lies somewhere in between’, but in this context it’s like saying the truth is a cross between Gandhi and Osama and that’s like impossible.

Which means, one of the two exalted committees is deliberately misleading the nation, and to find out which one, we will have to launch a third committee and that means another ten years down the tube. So much for justice in this nation!

And this clear injustice is what drives the fringe elements to blast the lives of innocent people. No amount of weapons and policing and intelligence can help us unless we cure the root cause of this cancer: political interference in the process of justice.

We dunno which committee is telling the truth (perhaps a sting operation on the bank accounts of their respective chiefs could throw a clue?). But we do know this: get ready for another series of attacks in buses and trains and planes and places of worship.

anil i feel that your last sentence is a bit irresponsible and its like implying that a particular community will get upset witht he report amd start attacking. you have always been open but responsible and since i consider u a journalist with repute i am asking u to consider deleting the last 2 lines.

What u predicted has come true and mehraulli seems to be in chaos. While on the face of it it may seem like these attacks are about caste, religion my sense is its the the opportunists who like to see nations tremble for what they perceive are wrongs in their book. And opportunists can come from any background. I wonder if these faceless terrorists can come to the table and have a discussion ever, to try and find some solutions?!

hi jenny,
irresponsible remark? perhaps. and i would even consider deleting it. but remarkably, a few hours after i posted these comments, a bomb went off in delhi.
the thing is we are sitting on land mines principally planted by crazed islamic militants. deleting this fact won't alter our destiny.
and mee, you are right. but the punjab lesson teaches us that we need to do two things. one, convince the moderate majority that terror is no answer, and that this nation is essentially just. and two, smoke out the remaining fanatics and finish them off. no, they aren't going to come to supper for discussion, we have to get after them. regards

There are lot many cases of Rioting and Terrorism, ever since the Independence, So many Commissions Set-up, but not one case of implementation of their findings and suggestions. What’s the point in setting-up Commissions, when the Government, whether State or Central, is not interested in implementing them. The end-result is that the real culprits go scot-free and an innocent officer is suspended, just to create an eye-wash in the minds of the public.

Take the Ghatkopar case, where a Police Official was suspended just because he ordered the cops to fire at a rioting mob, but till date, no efforts have been made in finding and booking the real culprit who garlanded the statue of Baba Saheb Ambedkar with footwear. Sadly, the Public Memory is short and today, there is no mention of any progress on the Telgi matter. Millions of scams have hit us, there are enquiries pending, since ages, against Powerful People, who still continue actively in Politics and the Business world, inspite of their involvement in such cases. The media too is interested in getting more TRPs by repeating the clippings when such scams are exposed through sting operations, but sadly there is no follow-up and all these scamsters fade away with the public memory and many under-trials even die, before the verdict from the Courts of Law is out.

We all, as Indians, need to understand by now that all along, the common man has been exploited by these so-called Protectors of the Land by creating a Divide amongst Masses on the basis of Cast, Religion etc. Unless and until we do away with Reservations on the basis of Cast, Religion etc. from the system, things will not improve. It’s true that we need to do something for the Deprived Classes, give them Free Education, but let them get admissions on Merit. Similarly, the Selection and Promotions in Public Sectors should be given solely on merit, May their pay-scales be higher than the other candidates.

In some countries, the punishment towards a simple robbery or theft is so Sevier that people dread to even think of committing a crime. Unfortunately, in our country, Rules & Regulations are often MISUSED and Seldom USED, and that’s what happened with POTA. Issues like Corruption, Religion, Illegal Business, Black Money, Illegal storage of Arms & Ammunitions etc. need to be tackled on a war footing and this is possible only if there is a WILL on the part of the Governing Authorities. All that we require is a Change in Attitude of People, but is it POSSIBLE???

yes i know a bomb went off shortly after that anil but stereotyping is not needed at this hour.i have seen the 93 bomb blasts in bombay with my own eyes but let us not forget that if all of us think back on how terrorism started in this country my 36 year old mind says "the demolition of the babri masjid" have those involved been brought to book NOOOOOOOOOOOO !!!! so terrorism is a cycle and someone has to break that cycle and that starts with you and me by not stereotyping any community. wud you have said the same thing about the other community if the nanavati commision said the opposite?let us not be like the politicians of this country coz as a citizen i am still ready to hold the hand of a hindhu, muslim, sikh or parsi and walk together

Vested interests, political interference add to the already fragile legal system. Whether it is getting justice or getting to the truth or getting to our destination, the path is strewn with obstacles and often twisted.
