I am converting, bhau!

So, Raj Thackeray has stolen the manoos plank from right under the muddled mis-fit Uddhav’s feet, and that poor sod has no idea what hit him. Sure, his canny dad will do all he can to grab some mileage out of the death of the Nashik manoos who got killed in the riots, but the ideological damage is done.

The only thing that backfired against Raj is that he did not spend a single night in jail, else the resultant sympathy card would have gotten him a greater bang for his Marathi buck. However, he’s not done yet, this is obviously only the first stage of his divide and rule strategy. Expect many virulent speeches and violent road shows in the coming days and months.

So what will the muddled Uddhav now do? The only thing left for him to do: match his warring cousin with equal venom against the migrants. So until the next elections come up, the poor migrants are gonna be subjected to hell. Big B will of course carry on with biz as usual, it’s the sad taxi and doodhwalas who will face the Marathi music.

And we in the media will do the cousins a huge favour by religiously covering their dirty deeds. I think time has come for all non-Marathi folks to convert. From this day, I am changing my name (finally) to Anil Thackeray. I shall learn the lingo, eat only missal pav and puran poli, and practice the lovely lavni. Jai Maharashtra!

Hi Anil,

Believe me I almost thought you were a Thackray, when you started writing for Mid-Day, till I saw your photograph and checked out your name once again.

Guess you would never have ever thought of writing such columns. Check out the other writers. They never comment on such issues. These include even some of the characters who have used their offices for a post in the Raja Sabah and elsewhere.
My gosh how they cry/vent their frustrations on other issues.
We are all pretty much aware of them.

hehe.....i remember you having changed your name earlier.....that was a few years back when you used to write for mid-day on sundays.... :-)

anyways, history repeats itself....no one would even care about the marathi manoos (is he really that much in need?) after the elections

life goes on........

I don't know who cares if Bhaiya sells pani-puri and vegetables except for Raj Thackrey. I have many maharashtrian friends and they don't even bother about this stuff they are more worried about 8 hours of load shedding to be honest. And even i remember u changing your name when u used to write for Mid-day.
Carry on the shit work!!

Hi Anil,
You are lucky. Just by shuffling a few letters and dropping some you can change your name and it will make abig difference. You will be safe Names matter a lot. I still remember way back i got admission in a convent school very easily becase my name sounded english and my sister did not get admission because of her typical Indian name. Any way keep your sense of humour intact and keep writing.

Haha! nice one... i am thinking of doing the same... im just thinking... what would have happened had yu written this exact article for mumbai mirror? :)
the readers of which ALL believed that EVERY bloody UPite or Bihari is a menace for mumbai... i think 99% voted for the question.. I dunno what to say i am a UPite myself! i wonder what kind of junta reads teh newspaper to say such things, cuz my experience is that atleast the middle class doesnt give a shit about where anyone hails from, as long as you dont disturb him in any way.

ofcourse i agree that the doodhwala bhaiyas will bear teh brunt...,a couple of days ago i was travelling in an auto, when a car crashed into it. it was teh car wala's fault, but the poor UPite bhaiya with teh auto got to hear teh choiciest of the gaalis.... interspersed with statements like "u bloody UP bhaiya go back to your UP". Apalling. but its a hard fact.

but i completely agree that sometimes all thsi discrimination and harassment does happen, mostly people dont care, and its all political. politicians know that the middle class person never votes, so he takes advantage of issues close to teh poor man's heart. cuz we people in white collar jobs living in cushy apartments wd perhaps never be bothered by all this, but the average guy in teh chawl is subjected to challenges liek these every day. i hope things calm down after the elections... we dont want another riot in the city now do we?

Hi Anil,

Please excuse me for using your space here. Thanks.

I just want to air my views regarding Rita Som's allegations that she got herself admitted to a convent school, as her name sounded English, while her sister did not make it due to her Indian name.

I am sure the said administration is not stupid. If their policy was what Rita believes. They would have checked out her surname, and then also rejected her.

There is surely some other issue for her sister not making it.

If one checks out the Convent schools from the South of Mumbai to far away Vasai in the North, one would find 90% of the students having an Indian name.
A few of the institutions in South Mumbai even have a 95% of students having Indian names, while there is one particular school which has a 100% students with Indian names.
In this case if the instition was so touchy, they would have closed down.

By the way, all students are INDIANS. Why bring up such issues?

Cheers.

Hi Anil, though my surname is the legacy of our white rulers,it has not stopped me from being a true Maharashtrian.I sympathise with Raj, he should have used the proper channel to register his greivance and pointed unerringly at the cause of his ire, without resorting to violence! Now, he can help to clean up the city, free the pavements, snip off crime and streamline the transport system to show his love for Mumbai. Remove all obstacles to achieving this- North, South, East or West, none has the right to desicrate this beautiful city!
